ICORE + university of alberta (UALberta)

On June 13, 2017 | ICORE and the University of Alberta entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize a new collaborative commitment to share energy-related innovation abroad and expand Canada's global profile as a leader in energy regulation. Both organizations offer a full portfolio of Alberta-based energy regulatory expertise, knowledge leadership, and capacity-building innovation with a view to increasing economic prosperity for global citizens. This partnership positions the Province of Alberta and Canada as partners of choice for governments and private sector partners all over the world who seek support with capacity building and innovation in the energy sector.
 

ICORE + SOUTHERN ALBERTA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (SAIT)

On June 12, 2017 | ICORE and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology entered into a Memorandum of Understanding underpinning a crucial component of regulatory excellence – stellar competence. SAIT and ICORE will work together to provide train-the-trainer capacity building, design and develop curriculum for regulatory training programs, and develop a joint SAIT and ICORE certificate program for regulatory excellence. This partnership supports the important work of building regulators that excel in engagement, technical acumen, and regulatory innovation – initiatives that will benefit Canadians and the global community through increased sharing of regulatory best practices and collaboration.
 

ICORE + Alberta Energy Regulator (AER)

On May 15, 2017 | ICORE entered into a strategic partnership with the Alberta Energy Regulator through a memorandum of understanding that formalizes efforts to work collaboratively, share information and expertise and build an international community dedicated to regulatory excellence in extractive industries. As a founding member of ICORE, the AER will provide expertise in the form of in-kind services provided by AER subject matter experts. This partnership supports the important work of building regulators that excel in engagement, technical acumen and regulatory innovation that will benefit all global regulators through increased sharing of best practices and collaboration.

Pedro Joaquín Coldwell, Mexico’s Secretary of Energy hosted Honourable Jim Carr, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, and Jim Ellis, CEO of the Alberta Energy Regulator in Mexico City, Mexico on February 2, 2017. The meeting officially announced Mexico’s decision to join the International Centre of Regulatory Excellence (ICORE), a global centre committed to supporting regulators around the world to achieve regulatory excellence.

On February 16, 2017 the Center on Regulation and Markets at Brookings partnered with the University of Pennsylvania Law School's Penn Program on Regulation to host the launch of the new Brookings Institution Press book, "Achieving Regulatory Excellence," which offers guidance from experts around the world for how regulators in all fields of policy can succeed in today's demanding environment.

The event featured the book’s editor, Cary Coglianese, the director of the Penn Program on Regulation and the Edward B. Shils Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania, Jim Ellis and other leading experts who contributed to the book.
